The Stories That Soften the Landing

In every interview I did — whether with a patient advocate, a caregiver, or a volunteer — there was a moment that always stuck with me. Right near the end of our conversation, when I’d ask, “Why share your story now?”
And almost every time, they’d say:
“If it helps just one person, it’ll be worth it.”
That line sat in my bones.
Because I’ve been the person looking. Googling. Searching. Hoping to find even one story that looked a little like mine — not for a solution, but for a soft place to land.
When you or someone you love faces a health diagnosis, no amount of academic info or Google search can comfort you like a real story can. Not even a doctor can give you the kind of peace that comes from hearing, "Someone else lived this. And survived."
I became a story steward in those years. And I take that responsibility seriously. Because when shared well, stories connect. They build empathy. They shift hearts and sometimes policy. They let people know they’re not alone.
And in a world that feels increasingly divided, that’s everything.
So when I created Small Adventures Communications, I didn’t just want to offer PR. I wanted to offer care. For the voices that weren’t always spotlighted. For the stories that took courage to tell.
This work isn’t about ego.
It’s about being a bridge.
So someone else can find their footing.
