Public Relations In Uncertain Times

Hi.
It's a wild time to be a health communicator/a non-profit communicator/a human, right?
I feel it, too, and I wanted to share a few pillars Small Adventures Communications relies on, no matter what is going on in the Big, Wide World. These same pillars are what we advise non-profit clients to focus on as they adjust and respond in the coming months.
Ethics - As an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, I adhere to their Code of Ethics in all my work. My professional ethics create boundaries I can feel good about. My clients rely on me to be an ethical advisor, and reviewing this code of ethics regularly keeps me accountable, no matter what is going on outside.
Mission - Small Adventures Communications exists to help good organizations tell good stories. We want to help small business owners succeed and help non-profits achieve their goals. With a clear mission, it is easier to see what is in scope and what is out of scope.
Message Clarity - Among friends, I keep hearing how "all of this" (usually paired with wildly swinging hands in the air) is overwhelming. True. And in confusing times, when there is a lot being said, having clear and understandable messages is vital. Imagine being in a burning building and hearing someone say, "The building is burning! You need to find the exit!" versus, "The exit is straight ahead, keep low and get out." Give what peace you can to your constituents by putting out clear messages that inform and inspire helpful action.
Statistics that Tell a Story - Using statistics to share your organization's impact helps give a broad look at the work you do and the problem you solve. Of course, stats alone cannot do much - they won't inspire us to act. For that, we need stories. Weaving personal narratives in with the bigger picture is a true passion of mine and it is the cornerstone of the work I do with each client.
Calls to Action - Keep it clear. Keep it simple. Keep it doable. Keep it singular.
