There's something about this time of year that really gets me planning for the future.
It must go back to days in school with fresh, blank notebooks, a crisp, clean planner,
freshly sharpened pencils, and that good
eraser smell. And to this day, these late
summer days are when I absolutely thrive
when it comes to planning, not just for my
own business, but for so many of my
nonprofit clients as well.
Summer can be a bit of a ramp-up time before we jump into fall event season or pre-legislative season advocacy work.
I just want to encourage all of you to take these days and leverage them for the maximum
results when it comes to PR planning.
What that means is really taking stock of your goals for the second half of the year.
Are you looking to drive registrations for a fundraising event?
Are you looking to build a panel of advocates for the upcoming legislative session?
Are you looking to raise a certain amount of money within your nonprofit?
If so, this is the time to check in on how your communication strategy is performing. This is
the time to look at those goals, assess what PR strategies and tactics you implemented in the first part of the year and what worked and what needs to be tweaked for the end of the year.
We all know that big events like Giving Tuesday and those fall event seasons can come up in what seems like a really short amount of time, leaving us kind of scrambling at the last
minute. And that's not what we want.
By taking a pause here when things are hopefully maybe still a little bit quiet, mapping out
week by week, what is left to happen, what is left to do, what channels do you need to be
activating? What pitches would land and what outlets are you going to serve them to to help you achieve those goals in the second part of the year?
If these questions leave you overwhelmed, this can be a great time to phone a friend and schedule an ad hoc strategy session with Small Adventures Communications to ensure your to-do list has you on the right track for meeting those big goals!
